Shdow Ghost by Boy's Bed13 viewsThis is from one of our investigations. The picture was taken in a dark room without a flash. The only source of light was a TV. We had to lighten this pic up considerably to see detail. When we saw the shadow materializing by the head of this child's bed, we thought we had a solid piece of evidence. That is until another of our investigators enhance another pic that must have been missed during the original analysis. The second pic clearly showed the shadow was cast off the footboard of a neighboring bed. Oh well. You win some, you lose some.8 commentscueball

Mysterious mist #28 viewsThe story behind the pic is that the group who had captured it was doing an invstigation at a local cemetery. There was no visible mist or strange phenomena observed. They found this "evidence" during analysis. There are a few problems with the analysis. #1-the mist is out of focus. Most digital cameras have a focal range of 18" to infinity, this indicates the mist is very close to the lense. #2 - The flash appears to be the only ambient light, accounting for the bright spot in the center of the mist. #3-Judging form the leaves on the ground, and the color of the leaves on the tree, it is fall and probably cool out. We would judge this to be a pic of the photographer's breathe condensation that he probably had not seen in the dark.cueball

Las Vegas Ghost21 viewsYet another fine example of shutter speed error via Email. The story behind this pic is that the man was not there and not seen until the pic was developed. However, there are a few clues that this was not the case. #1-look at the way the woman is posed. Offcenter and facing center as if she were posing with someone. #2- There is evidence of slow shutter speed in the lights. Notice how they are enlarged and seem somewhat out of focus. #3-The man sppears more transparent where there is intese light in the background and there is evidence of motion blurr around his arm. Our best guess is that this was a photo of the happy couple, but the man moved before the shutter closed.cueball

Spider Eyeshine 116 viewsThis pic contains an "Orb" that is not caused by dust. It fits the criteria for being a bonafide orb. It appears to emmit it's own light, it is nice and round when you look at it close, and when it was seen with the naked eye on this investigation, it appeared to have an intelligent pattern of movement. The problem is that it, of coarse, isn't an orb. It is the eyeshine from a spider. Much like a dog or cats eyes will give off a shine when light hits them in the darkness, many spiders eyes will too. That is what is caught here.cueball

Orbs?15 viewsLook closely at the thumbnail. The orbs are strangely colored and in a somewhat linear pattern. Now look athe the full sized image.

You are actually looking at three toy balls. If you thought they were orbs, you are probably trying too hard to see what you want to see, instead of looking from a skeptic's point of view. The person looking for orbs will eventually see orbs, whether they are legitimate or not.

Ghost boy #217 viewsLook closely and you can see the face of an apparition in the top half to the curtained window. This pic was taken in the living room of the house of one of our investigators, and it is actually a pic of his son. The pic was taken with a 3 sec. shutter speed and the boy walked into the field of view after the shutter was opened. You can see the face where the boy was when the shutter closed. The reason you cannot see the lower body is due to the intense light in the lower half of the window. Inappropriate shutter speeds are the base cause for amny false positives in evidence analysis.cueball

Mysterious mist7 viewsThis mysterious mist was caught on one of our investigations. However, I happen to know that this is not an ectoplasm or phantom vapor. It was very visible when this pic was taken, in fact, it is cigarette smoke. It was a very informal investigation done long before we had formed a serious investigation group. There were no rules in place about on site smoking during an investigation.cueball

"Orbs" = Dust8 viewsThis pic was taken on a training investigation. The you investigator in the pic appears to be surrounded by orbs. But, the house that we are in is undergoing massive renovation. It is very drafty and dusty. I don't bekieve there was a single picture taken that night without several dust particle orbs in it.116 commentscueball

Ghost of a Man and Dog15 viewsHere is another example of a false positive produced by a slow shutter speed. This pic was sent to us by Email. The photographer was a tourist taking a pic of the light house. There does not appear to have been a flash used. While the pic has an artistic value to it, we suspect it was taken by an amatuer photographer becaue the enire pic has motion blur. A Pro would have used a tripod to avoid this. The automatic settings on most cameras will use a longer shutter speed to achieve maximum exposure in low light scenes. The slow shutter is evedent by the blurr of the lighthouse light. The apparitions were caught at their position when the shutter closed. The motion blurr trail cannot be seen because of the low light. cueballMar 29, 2008
